At this point, let me introduce you to our little tag along for this journey, a 13 year old haunt virgin who we couldn't wait to see get his pants scared off. First up on the menu was laser tag. It was a sci-fi horror theme, where you were fighting off a swarm of aliens, and it was definitely a great way to ease our little tenderfoot into the haunt world. He enjoyed shooting the aliens, and we enjoyed the actors who had a lot of energy.
Next up was the haunted corn maze, the layout of the maze was a little weak, unfortunately they had some problems with the corn this season but they had some really good sets located throughout. However theses great sets were nothing more than just eye candy for our hungry-for-scares appetite, as there were very few actors within and we walked through most of the attraction without so much as a boo. There was a lot of wasted potential in the corn maze as there were several opportunities to set up something amazing. Though we enjoyed watching our young one nervously peeking around every corner and running away when we were treated to a good scare.
We were then served the main course with the haunted house, and all I will say was it was very well done with a great layout and great actors and for only $13 I have been to haunts where I paid a lot more and gotten a lot less. A little bonus surprise for us and me especially was the mysterious black hole!!!! I've been through a lot of haunts and seen a lot of stuff, so it's always pleasant when I encounter something new and different and the black hole was just that thing. Now I won't set it up as anything amazing to have peoples hopes be let down if they don't get out of it what I did. The truth is it was a simple idea that was extremely well executed and it gave me something I don't get very often which is a good scare followed by an even better laugh after the screaming stops.
The scorecard for Fearopolis would be 3.5 bats out 5; family friendly fun that I would recommend for those who are young or scare easily, but it might be a bit of a letdown for those hardcore horror fans who want something a little more intense.
